  • Many departments are divided into units that specialise in specific areas. For example, Surgery is divided into eight units specialising in Head and Neck Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and so on. There are 143 specialised departments/units in all.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis, Spondyloarthropathies such as Ankylosing Spondylitis and Psoriatic Arthropathy, Lupus, Primary Sjogren’s Disease, and Takayasu Arteritis are among the illnesses treated by the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, which sees approximately 40,000 patients every year.
  • This department offers its own MRI and sonography services for the extremities and clinical and translational research.
  • The Ida S. Scudder Centenary Center for Women and Children (ISSCC) has roughly 424 beds, houses Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproductive Medicine, Child Health, Neonatology, Paediatric Surgery, and Developmental Paediatrics departments.
  • There are three departments in the Orthopaedics department and specialist units for Paediatric Orthopaedics, Hand & Microvascular Surgery, and Spinal Disorders.
  • Haematology is a leader in treating all blood illnesses, including cutting-edge bone marrow transplantation, haemato-oncology, and bleeding disorders.
  • The Schell Eye Hospital campus houses the Department of Ophthalmology.

Are you visiting CMC Hospital, Vellore for the first time?

It is advised that you arrive a day ahead and check around the area if it is your first time visit, so that you can get a feel for it. On the day of your appointment, you must first provide a printout of the online appointment email confirmation at the counter, which is situated in the basement of the OPD complex. The counter opens at 8:30 AM.

The staff member at the desk will complete the relevant paperwork, put an anticipated time and the room number on the appointment letter, and you only need to present the letter. The time given is only a preliminary estimate and frequently runs hours late. You must be in the allocated room at the time specified.

Where to Stay in Vellore?

Starting with your preferences and budget, everything is up to you. There are numerous accommodations available, although it is ideal to stay close to the hospital. There are a number of hotels with prices ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 4000

If you wish to pay a little more, you'll receive separate rooms with common bathrooms instead of the dormitory style accommodations. Cooking is permitted in some hotels, such as SGRT Residency, which have a modest, contained space for this purpose.

Some hotels only offer quick booking options, while others accept phone reservations.

If you plan to travel to Vellore without making a hotel reservation, do not panic. There are many options and you will surely find accommodation.

Local Public Transportation in Vellore

The closest significant rail hub is Katpadi Junction, and Vellore has good train connectivity. Once you arrive at Katpadi Station, exit using the station's single departure. Once outside, you'll find cabs, and autos waiting.

An auto ride would usually take about 15 to 20 minutes when there’s no congestion.

The auto prices at night are different from the prices during the day. Be ready to pay between Rs. 150 and 200 at night.

Even though Vellore Cantonment Station is substantially closer to Vellore Hospital than Katpadi, some trains do travel through only Katpadi.

Tourist Spots around Vellore

Vellore Fort – Historically very important and is at a walkable distance from the hospital. It is a monument in honour of the First Sepoy Mutiny in 1806. Contrary to the common belief, there was a rebellion even before 1857 and this is a memorial to the same.

Jalagandeeswarar Temple – This is a functional temple and possibly the oldest structure in the whole fort. Built in the year 1550 AD, this is a Shiva temple built during the Vijayanagara Empire by Chinna Bommi Nayaka.

St. John’s Church – The church was built by the British during their reign in the year 1846.

Archaeological Museums (ASI) & Government Museum – These Museums have a vast collection of artefacts from the various periods. You can see stone sculptors, cannon balls, weapons, and more.

Golden Temple at Sripuram – Book an auto to visit this beautiful temple as it takes a little more than half an hour to reach from the hospital. Please note that men need to wear proper full-length pants or dhoti to enter. All electronic items to be deposited at the counter before entering.
